direct loans
I really need a job.
I keep saying this to myself. In the same frame as I need to lose weight and I need to clean my room. I really haven't been doing much to actually get a job recently. I have stagnated at the pharmacy, and when I return home I try to divert myself from the facts, but it has been almost a year since graduation. I went to go get the Sunday paper, but they were all sold out. I would have just flicked through the pages anyway.
Where has my will gone to lately?
(this rant brought to you by the Department of Education, which sent me a bill for my student loans today.)

earthfest
Heading out to the concert soon. Haven't seen Midnight Oil since '92. Don't think I'll stay for Raitt, not much of a fan. Hope to get there in time for Garbage.
I'll be riding down.

Books
I really need to update my books page. I've read 6 books since the last time I listed anything.
Things that I must buy and read in the coming months:
Biographies of:Washington
Franklin
Jefferson
Some early histories of the US, say 1780 to 1820.
I am reading Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation by Joseph Ellis right now and am on an early US kick.

rush
The faster I ride the harder the rain falls. Temperature drops as my lungs start to burn. Water seeps through. Just miss clipping the bus. All too soon, I am home.

urges, the feeling, loss
Today at work, I had an overwhelming desire to be home. To be riding my bike in the springtime, early morning mist, near the canals by the bay, back home. It came over me all of a sudden. It took me and went through me and left me standing with a bottle of prozac in my hand. It drained me. I stood in the pharmacy and wondered what the fuck I was doing dishing out these pills. This job has fulfilled its function. The only function it ever had. It kept me from seeking shelter back home. It kept me afloat. Nothing at all interests me here.
Its time to leave.

Manson denied parole
Whew! That was a close one. The parole board was unanimous in its decision but FOX News forecasted an early release based on bad exit-polling data.

What Day is it?
"...Abdullah wants to ignore yesterday, Sharon wants to ignore tomorrow, and Arafat wants to ignore today.
"...A society that makes a best seller about how to get its teenagers into Harvard will eventually build Harvards of its own. But leaders who glorify a teenager who committed suicide in a supermarket full of civilians will never build a country that can live on anything other than oil; their priorities will be too messed up." Things I love Early in the Morning
1) The doorbell ringing at 8 AM.
2) The doorbell ringing at 8 AM when you don't have to be into work til 11:30.
3) A roommate answering the door, but only after you decide that you have to answer it and so you get out of bed, but before you get downstairs you hear the front door being opened.
4) A carpenter knocking on your Door at 8:30 AM so that he can take window measurements, after you have fallen back to sleep.
5) The fact that even while half asleep you know that the 2 windows in your room are different sizes, and have to tell this to the carpenter, who has only measured 1 window, and has just said, "well, they are both the same size so you don't have to move those plants."

And the definite finish, Saint-Germain Cafe.

fave sites drying up
a (short off the top of my head) list of sites that I love that are no longer around (or that which don't post as much):
lemonyellow.com: I loved this site. This is the reason that I really noticed blogging and the reason why I started. I wish Heather didn't stop, but I am glad that she posted while she did. Otherwise I would never be here.
spacegirl.com: Angela and I went to school at the same time at West Islip High. She was a year ahead of me and the school goth. I was just a shy kid. I might have had a crush on her, but that was 10 years ago, and she has married, and I'm not telling either way. She stopped posting here, and now sometimes posts on trippyswell.com.
hoopla.com: Of course the real reason that this site has disappeared is because Network Solutions is run by apes and toads. Leslie now has it up and running on a different site. Which I just found. But I am still mad at Network Solutions, those bastards.
dooce.com: Just decided that her site was interfering too much with her life. As she lost her job because of her site, I understand her reasons. I just am sad because of them.
opinebovine.com: Just up and disappeared.

earth shows us Bostonians that it can give and take away.
Last week we had temps in the 90's and today we have the threat of snow.
I love my birth month.

"Shouldn't we be working on the site?"
"Umm, yep."
"Then why aren't we?"
"Well the sun is out, and its warm, and all that."
"...."
"Its a beautiful day, we shouldn't be working on the site."
"We are sitting at the computer, INSIDE, having a conversation with ourself. _We_are_not_outside_."
"Well we should be."

purchases after taxes
Just bought a Nikon Coolpix 2500 2.0MP Digital Camera. I am charging the battery, and am waiting to start clicking.
Was over at Logjamming.com and they will be my new hosts once all the paperwork is done.
So yes, Martha, I will be getting a pretty choice tax return. The rest, yes there is more, will go in me savings.

It seems that Hoopla might not be back for some time.
It seems crazy that this could happen and I hope it gets resolved soon. Links: Textism, MetaFilter, and nothing.
This all makes me a little nervous as I am trying to transfer my first domain.
I really like (liked) hoopla and hope that it can return.

30 - 1 years
I feel old. My back aches. My elbow aches. My head aches. I have this fat that I did not have 10 years ago. But that is when the fat started to visit. It liked me so much it started to invite its friends, relatives and pretty soon they had a huge party.
I am in my last year as a 20-something. I am 29 and 6 days.
boo-hoo.
I take heart in the fact that today is Giulio's birthday, and he is in his mid thirties and in good shape and well being.
Today I went for a bike ride. Not a long one, but a ride, a ride with no destination in mind. A ride where I went somewhere under my own power, weak as it may be. I plan on going for a longer ride tomorrow. Maybe I will go for an even longer one on Monday.
In other news: I can't seem to get control of my domain name from Yahoo. So it apears I will be here on blogspot a little while longer.

I will not be stamped, indexed or paraphrased
I just finished watching the first episode of The Prisoner, "Arrival", on WNET. I think that this was and is one of the best produced shows in all of television's history. I hope that WGBH brings it back into their programming line up.
The Village is a place that I hope to never visit. But viewing it is entirely different, anyone got a spare $127.46?

Oh my god
I am tired. This looks horrible, but as I can't import images from geocities, so it will just have to do. I think that I will be here (aka blogspot) til at least until April 26th, which is when my contract with yahoo ends. I just re-enlisted the domain with another provider, so all will be good in the end.
I still have to look into a few things.
I leave for New York tommorow. I'll be back on Monday night. I still have to pack.
5:47 PM
geocities
Oh yeah thats right, I can't FTP anymore. I knew there was something I was supposed to do.
Back on blogspot til further notice.

I have always had a curiosity when it comes to nuclear weapons and power. I have written umpteen papers on the subject for college and high school. Likewise I have always been drawn to picture of nuclear explosions. I have a poster of one destroying an atoll on my wall above my bed.
I don't know what the fascination is. Is it a byproduct of growing up in the 70's and the 80's when we thought that nuclear war was a certainty, any day so little domestic problem would flare up to a full Thermonuclear War between us and the Soviet Union. Taking the whole planet down with us, or just the fact that the colors look cool, or is it a reminder of what we have done already and that which we may do again?
Here is an assortment of pictures of US tests. link from Daypop

So in the pool I picked Maryland to beat Duke. I considered attending Univ of Maryland, and I got in, but I liked Boston better. 64-52. So I'll find out tomorrow if I am the pool winner or not, don't think many people picked Maryland 2 weeks ago.
Also: It seems that my Wisdom teeth no longer want to stay quiet. My lower jaw is bugging me right now. Thought I would have a few more months.
Also, Also: I was up almost $100 at one point in the poker game, but ended up $10 down by Sunday Morning. Oh well, it was fun and the Steak Tips and Ribs were great.
