I miss driving across country
My room is a mess because that is the way I left it in June. The bills are stacked really high in the corner. I need to find a job and re-do my
resume. We need to fill a vacancy in the house. (Need a place in Boston?) I have to buy a new suit for Andrew's wedding, which is in 2 weeks. I am going to Maine this weekend and need to pack. The car needs to be tuned up and cleaned.

There are still dead bugs on the front of my car. I can't get them off. I have stopped trying. I want to add more. I want to hit a highway and completely cover the car with dead bugs. Its the new color for the 2004 models. Dead bugs.

I didn't go to the beach at all while on Long Island. I left my bike at my mother's and so can't go for a ride. I went to EMS and bought stuff I could have used on the trip and instead will use someplace else. I hope to be lost on a dirt road.

There are still 16 states that I have never been to.
August:
2nd: 2 days in Maine with Chris and Cathy on a lake. We'll make Chris do pushups and carry the bags in preparation for his August 6th date with bootcamp.
12th: Return to Long Island and hit the beach and then the city.
16th: Andrew's Wedding in Old Williamsburg, VA.
18th: Radiohead.
Then no plans. Whatever will I do?

Red Delicious
There were three things wrong with her. The first, she always said with a snide remark, was that there were things wrong with her. The second was her inability to eat any kind of fish, even Snapper which her husband loved so much and which he gave up cause he loves her more. The last was an inability to see the color red.

This last always brought the usual stupid responses when someone first learned of it. "How do you know when the traffic light is red?" It is the top light. "Stop signs?" Octagons. "When you are bleeding?" Cause it usually hurts.

Once, at a party in the Village, after being asked by a rather dull writer of paperback romances, for what had to be the millionth time in her life, "How do you know which shade of lipstick to wear?" a man asked with as much sarcasm as he could, "How can you tell apples from oranges?"

She responded rather coyly, "Why, do you like my apples?"

When he blushed, the host, an old queen, said, "I wonder Mary, can you see that color?"

Which made the whole party laugh and the gentleman blush a deeper shade. She took his arm and led him away to the balcony where they stayed and talked all night.

These movies were in no particular order. Any favorites?

Long Island
On a quick vacation at my mother's house in West Islip. Of course you say, "didn't you just drive across the country for over a month?"

Well yes I did, but I am trying to quash the nagging feeling that I should be driving somewhere. I wake and feel that I have to get into my car and drive at least 200 miles today and see the world's only 5 legged cow (it is in Kansas by the way). I need to get used to being a lazy good for nothing unemployed person.

Monday was the 6th annual Bill Cutillo Golf Memorial. My brothers, cousin Billy and I shot 1 over par 72. We were really disappointed as we shot 6 under last year, but we, as always, had tons of fun and want to thank everyone and all who came and played and reminisced.

Since then I have sat around and played Bond on the PS2 with Christopher every day and have done little else. I have been sleeping late and staying up even later. But I still feel that I should be driving somewhere.

Oh well. This will pass, or I'll have to drive north (August 1st: Maine) and then maybe south (August 16th: Virginia).

6:55 PM
Boston
I am home again. Got in last night at 7:30 pm. Promptly fell asleep in my bed after looking through over 30 pieces of snail mail and over 200 email messages.

I can't shake the urge that I should be in my car driving somewhere. I can't even relax, I leave for New York tomorrow for a week on the island. I have tons and tons of shit to catch up on and a lot of stuff to do.

I should be doing some of that stuff now, but ya all need an update. Right?

I drove roughly 10,000 miles (calculations are near the top of the to-do list), and took over 2,000 pictures. But to be quick and brief just a quick overview of what I have been doing since the 4th.
4 July: VEGA$. Don't ask, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. 142 miles.
5 July: Hoover Dam in the morning and then drove to
Zion. The park is pretty incredible, but it was too late to see everything so I hiked to the narrows, watched the sunset and had some fun. 235 miles.
6 July: More at Zion. Also drove to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in the afternoon. Wonderful sunset over the canyon. 227 miles.
7 July: Was supposed to be a day of hiking and then a drive to Bryce. Instead the right front tire went flat. Again. Took a good portion of the day to drive and get it fixed. Needed 4 new tires as my old ones were kind of bald. Then drove to Bryce and did a quick hike. 224 miles.
8 July: Hiked Navajo Trail to Queen's Garden trail. Wall Street section of Navajo was closed but it was open later in the day and I did it then. 22 miles all in Bryce.
9 July: Hiked the Fairyland to Tower Bridge loop. 8 miles, 900 feet elevation change 8000 feet above sea level. Ran out of water with a mile to go. Best Hike of the whole trip. Bryce is now my favorite destination on this trip, pushing Badlands to number 2. Then Drove to Green River, Utah past beautiful surroundings. Utah is a great state to visit. 221 miles.
10 July: Today I drove and drove and drove. Utah to Colorado to Kansas. 673 miles.
11 July: Repeat yesterday. Kansas to Missouri (with a stop at the arch in St. Louis where I went to the top) to Illinois. 611 miles.
12 July: Louisville, Kentucky. Stopped and visited Justin and his wife Karen. 184 miles.
13 July: Still in Louisville. Bowled and had a good time. 0 miles (only day the whole trip where I didn't drive my car.)
14 July: Driving to Pittsburgh through Kentucky and West Virginia. 451 miles.
15 July: Played Golf with Jake in Pitt. Shot a 101. Could have done better. 89 miles.
16 July: Visited Carnegie Museums in Pitt. 30 miles.
17 July: left for Boston and got here around 7:30. Ending the round the USA trip. 559 miles.
Now I have to sort and pay all the bills sitting on my desk.

Pictures and much more information will be coming in a week.

Stay Tuned.
