My last actual post was 1 year ago. And it was only the annual Cities report (2010 will be posted in a few hours)

In that time I have moved out of the house I have lived in for 15 years, and I am almost exclusively been posting on twitter. The Books, Content and Me pages are hopelessly out of date. The book in the left corner under Reading? Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman was finished in 2006.

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of my first post on Blogger. Back then this blog was hosted on Blogspot (as it is once again now). I never consider those first 2 posts to be the actual start of the blog, but I never deleted them either.

I have always considered January 2001 to be the actual start. That is when I customized my page to look like this and moved the blog to my Geocities site, http://www.geocities.com/mcutillo/, (which is now defunct as all things Geocities have died) and actually started writing stuff.

On May 1st, 2001 I purchased the domain name jadedturtle.com. On September 8th, 2001 I created the current template for the site, which is still used to this day. In April 2002 I finally moved the site to a shared server hosted on LogJamming. That server was hacked on May 31st, 2004 and I considered moving to a new host, but as they stopped billing me I stayed for almost a year. I finally moved to Textdrive (now Joyent) in April 2005 when I purchased a VC lifetime host plan. I then purchased a Mixed Grill update package on January 31st, 2006.

I have made only minor changes to this site since. The major one being on April 30th of this year when I had to move the blog to blogspot as Blogger stopped allowing outside FTP publishing.

I believe I will be changing that soon. (But I have said this many times) This blogspot will stay, but I will be changing the main page to jadedturtle.com soon. I may move a new blog to one of my other domain names or I may just just stay on twitter. Or I may just go away, or walk across the USA, or live.

But 10 years is a good time to make a change.

The registration forms are up for the 2009 Bill Cutillo Memorial Golf Tournament. 12 years, how time seems to fly.

The event is on Monday, July 20th this year.

It is a scramble style tournament. $160 per player, includes Continental Breakfast, BBQ lunch, a 3 hour open bar, Dinner Buffet, Golf, Cart, T-Shirt, special gift and Prizes.

If you don't play golf you can just come to the dinner, $75 per person.

While on the phone with my Mom I saw a man staring at something on the street
It was a rat
I then saw a tabby walking towards the rat
The rat did not run away then the tabby smelled the rat
The tabby backed away from the rat
Then a black cat stalked the rat
The black cat slowly moved away from the rat
Did I mention that a housemate was throwing a dinner party?
The rat went around the corner and I lost sight of it
It snuck into the backyard
The housemate had her dog attack the rat
The rat ignored the dog the same as it ignored the cats and the party guests
That was very good for the dog I hope as I like Black Jack
I trapped the rat underneath a garbage can
THIS RAT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME (because it did not run away)
Another housemate called Pest Control
I then bought plane tickets to Las Vegas for a friend's wedding
2 hours later I went to a bar, pest control had not shown up
I drank some beer, good beer
Now, many hours later, the trash can is still upside down and I am afraid that my housemates dog may have the PLAGUE.

I really didn't want to go to work this morning.

I probably shouldn't have.

I came in to find K. cleaning up what appeared to be my books, papers and equipment.

Sunday evening, around 9pm, a pipe burst on the 3rd floor of my building. My desk, on the first floor, was directly under the torrent of water that flowed down.

My Computer, monitors, Griffin Amplifi, shoes, and various other shit was drenched.

Not a good Monday morning.

Took awhile to get started after that. I should have just turned around and left. The computer thankfully works. Don't know how much else has survived because I couldn't bear to try and turn them on. We'll see tomorrow.

This weekend is OHNY in NYC, and for the 5th year I will be driving south to attend.

This year I am bringing my camera again (forgot it last year, accidentilly erased the pics from 2 years ago) and I realize that I really need to purchase a new one.

I have thrown around the idea of a new digital point and shoot but I haven't gone out of my way to compare new models. My current camera is over 5 years old, the Nokia CoolPix 2500, and it is showing its age.

I am looking at the Panasonic DMC-FX07, but that was based on a recommendation that is 6 months old.

Tomorrow I go to my first professional golf match. The Bank of America Championship. I got the tics from my friend Chris, who do to family plans can't go. He graciously gave them to me.

I always thought that I would have gone to one of these with my dad.

Tom Watson is at the top of the leader board after the 1st round. Tom Watson. It is almost like it is the 80's again.

I would watch golf with dad, I always said it was the only sport I could like better on TV. On TV you see everyone on the leaderboard, all their shots, all their mistakes. At a match, you either follow 1 group or stay on 1 hole. Tomorrow I get to experience that. I expect it to be like the Head of the Charles, lots of people, lots of side shows, and a lot of stuff that you do not see.

I am on vacation this week. I did nothing, stayed at home. Didn't exercise like I said I should. Didn't read as much as I could have. I slept, spent too much time on the computer, went out once and got drunk, almost the same stuff as a regular work week, without the work, though I did check email and voice mail once or twice or 6 times a day.

I played too much Hearts, Rummy and Desktop Tower Defense 1.5.

I stayed home, indoors, and hated myself for it. What a waste of time.

The urge to buy a flamethrower and light up my room, to burn all this paper, to rid myself of the mess, and be left with a clean white room, is immense. If the house were fireproof, I might just call in Montag's crew and ask them to do it for me.

I don't know how much longer I can live like this, but when I try and organize it, the overall futility of it hits me in the face like a ton of bricks. I fear turning into one of those men who live alone, whose house/apartment is a maze of stacked newspapers. Except for me, the maze would be of books, magazines and clothes, and I would most certainly never find my way out. Friends would use my house as a library, but as they could never make it to the center of the maze, they would soon forget I existed.

I hate spring cleaning. No matter how much I throw/give away, there is always more.

Edit: Originally written on 4/29/07, I'm STILL cleaning.

Gotta reboot. Computer or life, is the question.

Maine vs Michigan State and BC vs North Dakota.

Lets look at my predictions:

My Final Four was: BU vs UMASS and BC vs Minnesota.

I was 6-2 in the first round. Unfortunately BU lost and I had them in my final 4. UNH also lost.

In the second round I was going with history to say that UMASS would be in their first frozen 4 (also UMASS had won the last 4 matches vs Maine this season), instead Maine advanced to its 4th of the last 6. Minnesota lost in OT to North Dakota, close game that should have gone Minnesota's way.

So I only had 1 team correct going into the Frozen Four, and of course it is the team I dislike the most.

I am hoping for an all Hockey East final still (had BU vs BC) and even though I don't think Maine can beat Michigan State, I want BC vs Maine. With Maine winning, but I'll take Michigan State if it happens that way.

I just hate BC, its a BU thing.

Use one of my old computers (1 laptop, 3 desktops) as a music client downstairs. Buy some nice, cheap($50-$75), good sounding speakers, and a wireless network card and stream music to it. Maybe get a cheap soundcard, too.

Might actually be able to get the roommates to kick in some cash, as most of them use iTunes and can then open their playlists. Could maybe even use the speakers that S---- owns.

Will need a new wireless router as my current one is in the early stages of death.

I don't know why I never thought about this before.

I am not a person who likes award shows. Hell, I can't even recall the last time I watched one, but tonight I made a point to watch the opening minutes of the Grammy's, all because the Police were the opening act.

I can't wait until they tour this summer, I just hope I can get a ticket for less than my annual salary.

Of course the moment after Sting, Stewart and Andy bowed to the audience and the announcer said, "Now presenting the first award..." I muted the sound.

That was all I needed. 4 minutes of "Roxanne". 4 minutes of one of my favorite all time bands.

I really hope those tickets don't cost too much. Supposedly there is a press conference tomorrow to announce the tour (I hope its about a tour and not just the fact that it is 30 years since "Roxanne" debuted).

There are worse things that can happen to a man in this world. Decapitation by roller-coaster. Death by bug infestation. But death by Pirates still ranks high on the list. Of course Joe was not killed by pirates but by Sid Meier's Pirates! A video game made in 1987. Joe was so involved in that game, that he died of grief when his character, Obtuse Beard, could no longer gather a crew at the old age of 39. The same age that Joe was.

After his marriage had collapsed last summer, he found his old Commodore 64 in the basement of his parent's house. It still worked. The disks he had left were decayed past use but he found what he needed on the net. He started playing again. Obtuse Beard found the Flying Dutchman and had captured it, a feat that no one in the forums would believe. Obtuse had saved his father, and mother, daughters and cousins, his brothers and even the family dog. Captured the Spanish Silver Train 6 times, sacked Havana, was a Duke in all four nationalities, but at 39, was too old, to worn out, too sick to gather a crew. He could only muster 5 men, when once he had 376 under his command, and a fleet of 12 ships. Those 5 men jumped ship before he could even leave port.

Joe lost faith. He just sat on his couch as the game time scrolled by, trying to gather a new crew, a new fleet, a new beginning, but in his mind Obtuse became the old man who handed out scraps of maps in the dark corners of the taverns. He stopped eating. He only drank rum, til his heart just stopped.

He was found by his daughter, slumped in front of the TV.

We will miss him.

I sit here, having just wasted the most beautiful January day that I will most likely ever see in Boston, cause if the temperature stays this way year in and year out Boston will be under water and I will be living in Saskatchewan where it just might still get cold.

Tomorrow I am going to the game. A game between 2 of the 3 teams that I root for in the NFL. By decree I must root for the team that is home. It was made many years ago when I figured out that I was actually rooting for 3 teams each week, 2 in the same division. The third team lost just minutes ago when the quarterback forgot how to hold the ball correctly.

I spent today sitting at the computer not doing anything. I did not eat til almost 6. Things must not keep continuing in this direction.

Tomorrow is my last day off for 2 weeks. I still need to buy those tickets to Tampa. I still need to do many things. But now, I will turn off all electrical appliances that do not have an alarm clock on them, pick up the book, and go to bed.

Over on the left I have a list of the websites I regularly peruse. Some of them have been there for years, some since the day I started listing links. Others are the reason I started this in the first place.

There are some there now that go to sites that either no longer exist, or that are no longer regularly updated. But I keep them just the same, for the day when they start again, or just to remember those people whose every post was a delight to read.

Leslie Harpold's site is one of those links. One of the ones that is there in the hope of posts. She passed away this weekend, and though I never met her, and I never wrote her, I am saddened to here of her passing.

I just watched "Being John Malcovich" for the first time. I know, seems a movie that I should have watched years ago. But I always wanted to watch it all the way through, and I would only ever catch it at some middle point. I knew the premise but the movie is just so much crazier than you could ever think it could be. How could Charlie Kaufman get away with this. How could some one produce this. Only Naked Lunch could be considered crazier.

This is a movie that holds so much sequel posibilities.
